The Council of Scientific Society Presidents (CSSP) is pleased to hold CSSP Office Hours. This opportunity, for CSSP member societies, will be held once a month.

The role of the president of a scientific society differs from the one of a scientist and member of a scientific society. One of the primary benefits of being a CSSP member is networking with other science society leaders. This affords many opportunities for informal interactions and the chance to learn how other science societies and presidents have successfully made this transition. During in-person meetings there are informal interactions that allow time to ask for advice from more experienced science society leaders. Because of COVID, CSSP and many other science society meetings were held virtually – but a need to develop a network still exists, particularly since being a president during a pandemic has made the role significantly harder.

To help meet this challenge CSSP started offering virtual “office hours” once a month. During this time two CSSP board members will be available to facilitate discussion of issues, answer questions and provide advice. This will be an informal interaction between all participants.

During the August CSSP Office Hours we are pleased that the Hon. Haskell Pitluck, a long serving emeritus member of the CSSP Board will be available to talk about scientific society leadership topics of interest to you. Mr. Pitluck will be joined by our special guest Martin (Marty) Apple President & CEO Emeritus, R&D Director for CSSP. Dr. Apple's extensive experience in scientific leadership and guidance of policy support for science, coupled with Mr. Pitluck's legal knowledge will make this an Office Hours session not to be missed.
